What is GUMBO?

This innovative project is funded by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy under the Vehicle Technologies Program Office. The initiative develops and supports the deployment of electric vehicle infrastructure installation, maintenance, and repair curriculum in community colleges and other workforce focused educational institutions across the country.

Our project is designed to target training for individuals from underserved and disadvantaged communities and provide these students with skills that are in demand and can give them a pathway to employment and personal growth in the clean transportation economy.

The goals for the GUMBO project are to produce a free and easily accessible replication resource kit for educational institutions and community-based organizations (CBOs) across the country that provides EVSE installation and operations curriculum, best practices, access to a Peer-to-Peer network of professionals, training webinars, as well as hands-on support and guidance from their local Clean Cities and Communities coalition.

Goals

  • Develop and pilot an EVSE curriculum in Louisiana to train individuals to install, maintain, and service electric vehicle charging infrastructure

  • Pilot the training programs in partnering states and develop a replication toolkit for broad adoption

  • Train and create job opportunities for individuals and skilled incumbent workforces in underserved communities

  • Deploy coalitions in the Clean Cities and Communities partnership to support educational institutions in their efforts to implement the curriculum across the nation
