Get Technical Assistance

GUMBO works with subject matter experts across the country to provide our participants with technical assistance in the following areas. Please fill out the form below, and one of our subject matter experts will be in touch to assist you.

Curriculum Development

Our experts provide support to institutions for Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) installation, operations, and maintenance. Assistance may include:

  • Developing white-papers and modular curricula for both installation and operation/maintenance training tracks.

  • Adapting the content to fit credit or non-credit programs, or integrating into existing electrician or technical trades curricula.

  • Guidance on including advanced topics (e.g. DC Fast Charging, EVSE commissioning, industry standards) while aligning with local institutional constraints.

  • Support for “train-the-trainer” webinars and instructor onboarding to ensure instructors are ready to teach the material.

  • Access to peer networks and collaboration with other institutions to share best practices and lessons learned.

Utility Connection & Engagement

To deploy and run EV charging infrastructure, strong connections with utilities and regulatory bodies are critical. Our experts help with:

  • Facilitating outreach and engagement with utility providers, regulators, and grid stakeholders to pave the way for EVSE deployment.

  • Advising on utility interconnection requirements, load calculations, and permitting processes. (While the GUMBO curriculum itself is not focused on solar or energy storage integration, we can help with high-level understanding of how chargers tie into the utility grid.)

  • Sharing best practices from utilities and other institutions that have deployed EV charging stations in educational settings or community environments.

  • Offering technical insights on power infrastructure, metering, safety, and regulatory compliance as related to EVSE.

Workforce Development

Building a pipeline of skilled workers is central to GUMBO’s mission. In this area, our support includes:

  • Assisting in structuring workforce training programs (e.g. cohorts, stackable credentials, modular progression) tailored to underserved communities.

  • Identifying job pathways and connecting graduates with potential employers or apprenticeship opportunities.

  • Supporting community outreach and recruitment strategies to engage underrepresented populations.

  • Helping in data tracking, reporting, and evaluation—such as documenting hiring outcomes, demographic metrics, and performance toward equity goals (e.g. Justice40).

  • Linking institutions to Clean Cities coalitions and other partners for local collaboration and support.

Next Steps & Contact

Once you complete the form below, one of our subject matter experts will reach out to you. In the meantime, here’s what you can expect:

  • We’ll ask you what kind of technical assistance you require (curriculum, utility engagement, workforce development, or other).

  • You’ll gain access (as appropriate) to the GUMBO replication toolkit, which includes curriculum white papers, instructor materials, webinars, and peer support resources—all provided free of charge under the DOE award.

  • We’ll coordinate with your institution (community college, workforce training provider, or community-based organization) to align your timeline, resources, and capacity for implementation.

  • You may also be connected with Clean Cities coalitions or local partners in your region for on-the-ground technical or logistical support.

We look forward to collaborating with you in building high-quality, equitable training programs for EV infrastructure across the country.
